The SEO score is green. The claim is still wrong.

A tool can check a rule and miss an unsupported promise. Decide what must stop publication, regardless of the score.

A high average cannot compensate for a false claim or a broken essential action.

Use an SEO score to decide what to investigate, not to approve a page automatically. A green result cannot confirm an unsupported business promise, a useful explanation or a working enquiry route. Review the findings that matter to the page and keep serious unresolved problems visible.

A pass against whose rules?

The optimisation tool is happy: the phrase appears in the title, the article is long enough and the image fields are filled. Yet the page promises a service your team does not offer, and its main button leads to the wrong form.

That is not a contradiction. The tool checked its rules. The business still needs to check whether the page is accurate, useful and ready for customers.

A score is a summary of someone's rule set

Different tools can grade the same page differently because they use different checks and assumptions. Some checks identify valuable technical faults. Others are editorial preferences or rough indicators that need context.

Ask what caused the score and whether each rule applies to this page. A materials catalogue, a contact page and an educational guide do different jobs. Treating them all as the same kind of article can produce busy work without improving the customer experience.

Suppose a page receives a strong score but includes a turnaround promise that the business has never approved.

Where it goes wrong

The page is published because the report is green and the draft looks complete.

What to do instead

Confirm or remove the promise with its factual owner, then complete the relevant content and functional checks. Keep the score as one observation rather than the approval itself.

The decision protects the accuracy of the customer-facing offer. It does not require rejecting every automated recommendation.

Some failures should never disappear into an average

An unverified price, invented customer review or broken enquiry action needs attention even if many unrelated checks pass. A high average cannot make a false claim true or confirm that a message reached your team.

Separate problems that prevent publication from improvements that can be scheduled later. Keep 'not checked' distinct from 'passed'. That gives the owner a clearer decision than a single colour, especially when a supplier is asking for acceptance or payment.

Accept the page against its actual purpose

Review whether the opening fulfils the title, whether the facts match the offer and whether the relevant next step works. Let the technical team verify the applicable implementation requirements and explain any remaining limitations.

A score can still help compare a consistent set of checks over time. Use it as supporting evidence, with the tool and conditions named. The final publishing decision should belong to the people responsible for the content and the delivered website.

Questions to ask your agency

  • Which rules produced this score?
  • Do those rules apply to this page's purpose?
  • Are any factual or functional blockers unresolved?
  • Which checks have not actually been performed?

Common questions

Should we stop using SEO tools?

No. They can help find and monitor issues. Review the meaning and applicability of their findings rather than treating the final score as a complete judgement.

Can we publish with a warning still present?

That depends on the warning and the page. Understand the consequence, make a deliberate decision and keep the reason visible. A serious factual or functional failure deserves different treatment from a minor preference.
